I recently went to Tiffany & Co. the other day with a friend of mine to help select a wedding band. Now some of you may thinking “whatta baller!” but Tiffanys can also be a great source if you don’t know ANYTHING about quality and need to select something quickly (for you busy, busy New Yorkers.) If the brand is there, then you know that it’s quality no matter what. That was the exact same boat my friend was in. Her and her FI are both lawyers in Manhattan and barely have time to breathe.

Here are some of my personal suggestions for you who haven’t yet picked out your wedding band….

Pick something that you will actually wear everyday. Some women get excited when they think about showing off a blingy wedding band, but ladies — that’s what your engagement ring is for!
Think of it this way — you have your e-ring when you want to be flashy. So why not have a wedding band for those “less flashy” experiences? Of course you want your band to match your flashy e-ring, but also think of those times when you might want to stand out less. (OoOoO humility?! what’s that?! *sarcastic tone.)

Keeping the first point in mind, pick something that makes it actually look like a wedding band. I think MOST brides don’t want ANY diamonds on their bands. Of course, if you’re poor, you’re poor =) There’s nothing wrong with that… but at the same time, what’s going to make your wedding band any different from let’s say, a purity ring? I suppose you could chose the classic gold band, but I almost never see that any more. Just something to think about ….

Look on the inside if you want your wedding band engraved. Many people choose to have something engraved on the inside of their rings. You could also do it for your e-ring, but I personally think the wedding band would be ideal because your hubs would also have it on his wedding band. Certain types of rings won’t allow that type of engraving, or there is very little space. So if engraving is something you’re VERY insistent about, you can think about getting a band that is jeweled halfway instead of all the way around.

Something like this may not leave enough room for engraving

Dipped or non-dipped? My e-ring and wedding band don’t match at all. Meaning that there’s space between them when I’m wearing them at the same time.  It wasn’t that big of a deal for me if they matched perfectly. With my “leaf” design, it would be very difficult to get a wedding band that would match that. So I just thought to myself that I would get something that semi- matched and that would be enough. If you’re planning on wearing both at the same time ALL the time, then maybe a “dipped” look would be better and more comfortable.

If you’re a simple gal like me (and slightly scared that you’re going to get mugged in the streets of new york) then choose a ring based entirely on it’s own design so that you can wear it alone at all times. I never wear my e-ring unless its for a special occasion!

C's wedding band, which I love!

You CAN be creative! Everyone is all about being unique these days.  There are lots of ways to find a perfect wedding band that would match your e-ring in a creative way!

Do you love it? Ladies, the wedding band isn’t the secondary ring. Don’t get “some ol simple ring” just because you feel like that’s what they typically have to be. In fact, in my opinion, it’s way more important than the e-ring. The e-ring I plan to give to my daughter or daughter-in-law. But I want to be buried with my wedding band. The wedding band is what symbolizes your marriage, a matching piece of jewelry that goes with your husband. It’s touching and beautiful, so please — be absolutely in love with it! It is forever :)
