One “work out” that has been consistent in my life these days is, hiking & push ups. My bridal gown is a strapless, A-line silhouette. So a girlfriend of mine mentioned how I can “tuck & hide” everything below my boobs. Which means I should concentrate real hard on my jiggly arms & shoulders! BRILLIANT!
One thing that I can’t seem to gain control over is DISCIPLINE & SELF CONTROL.
On my weekly hikes, there is a nutritionist who has made it his mission to use the next 3 months to help me get to my ideal weight. Which means that he just tells me what to eat.
BUT GOOGLE already does that for me.
So when I told him that I have no problem eating what he tells me but I can’t seem to stop binge eating. That’s when he gave me this awesome advice.
KNOW YOUR STOMACH! Visualize it!
Look how small your stomach is compared to the rest of your body! My nutritionist told me that considering my height (5′3″) and age, the average size of my stomach (empty) should be no bigger that both fists.
I can tell you that I have definitely been overindulging and eating beyond my 2 fists!
Here are some tips to prevent you from my bad eating habit!
- I personally don’t like eating by myself. So I’ll starve all day and eat when I am with someone. But by that time, I am SO hungry, I over eat. So snacking on fruit, veggies, & healthy snacks throughout the day is KEY!
- Your stomach registers you are full within about 15 minutes of eating. So stop eating after 15 minutes.
- Chew your food well.
- Drink a lot of water before you start eating. This tip seems like you are tricking your stomach to thinking it is full. So it is important to snack a little throughout the day.
- This last tip is a bit TMI … but keep mental notes on how much you put in your body & how much comes out. This helps you maintain what is in your system.
Wish me luck! I am hoping this new way of looking at food changes my life!

How about keeping a food diary? Every time you eat, jot down what you ate, how much and why you ate it. It will keep you from mindless eating, emotional eating and keep in check social eating. You can also subscribe to a site like Sparkpeople.com, which is a free weight-loss and fitness site that helps you log and track you food. It will calculate how many calories you’ve taken in and then you can really see how much you’re eating.
Simply put, you need to maintain a calorie deficit to lose weight, meaning you have to burn more than you take in. If you know how many calories you’re eating, you can see how many calories you need to get out of exercise.
Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!
wow! this is great advice! I bought myself a “eating diary” yesterday to follow your advice~
Ditto to who said a food diary
I couldn’t start eating well till I started keeping a diary. I use the lose it app on my itouch. It’s so useful cause it also gives you percentage fat, how much fiber etc.
I started eating TONS healthier since then
