Dress shopping. I know it’s most girls dream to find THE dress of their dreams. The dress they will wear once in their lifetimes. The dress where the beginning of forever starts. But for me … it was a nightmare. Especially because I fell off the bandwagon about 20 times in 2009.
Looking online made it worse! Page after page of looking at size 0-2 models in gorgeous dresses made my scary dreams, nightmares and regretting the last cupcake I had.
WHO can resist this?? a cupcake & a cookie?? = HEAVEN~
But I did it. I turned to a few local shops in Flushing, Queens and to my horror, a) did not find any dresses that looked like they were worth the marked price b) the customer service I deserved c) my self esteem shattered.
So with encouragement from my loving friends, I went to RK Bridal. WHAT?? are you screaming? That I, a girl who lives in NYC did not hit up all the bridal ATELIERS along 5th ave? like Kleinfelds? I wanted to avoid the snoot. My self esteem was already shattered, I did not need anyone telling me that my wedding dress budget was only welcomed at David’s Bridal. (Which I got over the phone with one of those upscale boutiques)
RK Bridal promises no frills and welcomes all brides of different shapes, colors, financial standings in life. I, being the low budget, square, green bride took my fat arse there and fell in love. Fell in love with wedding dress shopping, trying on beautiful couture gowns, and my consultant! Janice! It took about 5 dresses for me to get really comfortable with being semi naked in front of her but at the end of about 10 dresses, we were hugging and she gave me a huge boost of love~ Reassuring me that I wasn’t BULGING out of the dresses and that I looked gorgeous. =*)
So without further ado, here are some of the contenders. It’s still REALLY early on in the game to make any final decisions, but I really want to take you on my journey. Because this time, I’m not eating any cupcakes till 12/12/10. xP

I’m going to be checking out 2 more shops out in Long Island next week. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to shop for wedding dresses? Geek In Heels recommended a boutique out in NJ. I’m looking for a shop that’s going to make me feel like a super star with my tiny budget and huge arse

I love the first dress!!
I like the Watters one the best. I got my dress in Brooklyn at Lotus Bridal but that may be too far for you. It’s a small store, and the owner Wendy has been great so far. They worked with my 1k budget and got me a new dress, not a sample like other stores would have.
I loveeeee the Watters & Watters Austin dress!! So pretty!

@ Kay – I went to a bridal boutique downtown last week and they had “THE ONE” but the lady wouldn’t tell me the brand name or style =( … I must take you with me next time~

If you are patient & love to hunt for bargains… I will suggest Bridal Garden its in Manhattan near the Flat Iron building. Word of advice… don’t bring boys & bring 2 girls who like to shop, with you!

I too went to RK Bridal first and I had a horrible shopping experience. So for my next trip I totally dreaded shopping for the “one dress”. I went to Bridal World in Baldwin Long Island and they were great! My consultant was named Maria and she understood what I was looking for and helped a great deal! I also brought 3 girls with me that just kept finding dresses for me to try on. I did find a dress that was at an amazing price that I loved…. In the end, I loved dress shopping and can’t wait to wear my dress now!!!!
