I always expect to gain a good 2 lbs or so during the holidays. And why? Because this is the time to drink hot cocoa (with extra whipped cream please!) cookies and all the other types of glorious holiday food!
D and I make christmas cookies every year as part of our holiday tradition! There are ways to help avoid those 2 lbs (which are sooo hard to lose!)
C’s tips:
- avoid all holiday drinks! Sodas and apple cider are probably loaded with tons of sugar. So just try to drink water!
- when you have people over or host a party, make people take food home! if it’s lying around, chances are that you will nibble on it. Especially if you’re the type that doesn’t like wasting food! make a goodie bag for your guests!
- if you’re like me and you LOVE baking cookies, make them for other people and give every single one away! you can give it to your co-workers or neighbor. at least you get the baking cookies part out of your system and it makes you a kind person for giving them away
- avoid snacking on chips and dip when you arrive at parties. they will add unnecessary calories and fill you up when you should be eating real food!
- to avoid being That Person That Is Always Dieting (it can be irritating) I always allow myself to eat the main course. Chances are that the host has worked hard to prepare that food so I think it would be courteous to eat it!
- when you watch tv or are at a party, sit on the ground. I know this sounds weird but you’re supposed to burn more calories by sitting on the ground rather than a couch! This is because you’re more uncomfortable and always shifting around rather than sitting like a lump.
- this is kind of funny, but I purposely wear pants that are a bit too tight. This will remind you all night that “ohhh the stomach is bulging!” You can also wear a shirt that’s a bit too tight around the tummy as a reminder. These are just my semi-psychotic reminders which are more funny than serious—so if you’re too uncomfortable doing these than I wouldn’t do it!
