I’ve been sick for the past week, so I’ve been watching a LOOOOT of TV.  One of my favorite shows this season has been The Biggest Loser. I never rarely cry, but oh MAN I bawled like a baby during the first episode!

If you’ve never seen this show before, it’s not exactly what you think. This season is especially different because the entire cast are strangers. It’s almost like a Real World + counseling camp all rolled into one.

I don’t cry about things like romantic love or anything like that— but what really gets me are strong people who are trying to be strong, but they just start breaking in the midst of emotions. (ie: Miranda from Grey’s Anatomy.)

Abbey has been my favorite character so far.  She is a true optimist and has gone through so much in her life.  Her husband, 5 year old daughter, and 2.5 week old baby all died in a car accident with someone who was going 100 miles per hour.  She’s said “every role in my life… was gone in a blink of an eye.” You can tell she’s just such a great person at heart, and she’s struggling to truly mean these optimistic words.  I think that’s so real, revealing, vulnerable.. and amazing!!

Abbey!

Abbey!

Not only do they have great tips and make you feel like ANYONE can lose weight if you really, really tried…. but you learn a lot about humanity and broken people.

Some tips I’ve learned on the show:

- not all fruits are good for dietary reasons (mangos, grapes, melons have lots of sugar)
- the only healthy way to eat things are steamed, roasted or poached
- you need healthy fats!! (avocados, nuts, but go easy…)
- if you truly want to lose weight, you MUST use a calorie book and see how many calories you are taking in and how much you’re burning. It’s pure simple math!
- they say this over and over again… if THEY can do it (at 400+ lbs) then anyone can! You just have to get started.
