ANTM is my guilty pleasure show!! I admit it, but I promise I really am interested more in the amazing hair/makeup and the PHOTOGRAPHS! I love seeing the amazing transformation!

I’m sure we’ve all felt hopeful whenever we see that there is a new Asian girl on the show. However, they have not really been quite what I would have wanted to represent “our people.”

Let’s start with the first Asian girl that I can remember, from Season 2, April:

I don’t really remember much from this cycle but that she did mention something about sometimes feeling embarrassed/ashamed about being part Asian. The judges thought she was too self-critical and that she should be proud of who she was.  (She’s only part Japanese, but she’s a beautiful mix of other nationalities.) I was sad that she said that, because her features are really lovely and classic.

Cycle 6: Gina

Oh Gina… this girl seemed innocent, but oh so air headish. Her school pictures seemed exactly like my high school pictures, so I kinda felt for this girl because she seemed like a regular Asian girl. I found myself cringing everything she opened her mouth….

Cycle 12: Sheena

Sheena had a big personality, but I remembered that the judgest thought she was too hoochie mama.  She reminded me a lot of Beyonce actually, but her looks were really nontraditional for Asian girls. (She had a big booty and later admitted to having fake boobs.) I do remember feeling happy that she wasn’t the typical giggling, shy, stay-in-the-corner type of cliche Asian girl—she really had balls and knew how to stand up for herself.

Cycle 13: Jennifer *Current!

I was really excited to watch this season because they are working with SHORT models! Jennifer is only about 5′5 and I have tons of friends that are that height that I think would make great models! However, the thing with Jennifer is that she has super chinky eyes, which is what most of us have… but I’m crossing my fingers that it won’t get her eliminated. She also had issues with her eyes being really crooked, but hopefully that will be seen more as a unique quality than a flaw!

As for the makeup in that one shot—MAN they made her eyes look super chinky! Perhaps that makeup artist enjoyed enhancing the chinky-ness of Asian eyes? That is some crazy look!
