The Kaiser Diet

by Carol, posted in Health

Yes, I know that quick-fix diets never work… but this particular diet interested me because it’s only 3 days long!  A friend of mine told me about this diet and I purchased the materials and started it the next day.  Apparently, you are eating weirds foods that create a “chemical breakdown” so that you’re able to lose weight quickly.  (Supposedly 10 lbs in 3 days but it depends how big you are in the first place.) Also, this diet was recommended by someone who worked at Kaiser, so it’s not like it’s some random person’s opinion that knows nothing about the body. Take a look at the 3 day diet:

Day 1

  • Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit, 2 tbs. peanut butter, 1 slice toast
  • Lunch: 1/2 cup tuna, 1 slice toast, a coffee/tea
  • Dinner: 3 ozs. meat, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup beets, 1 small apple, 1 cup vanilla ice cream

Day 2

  • Breakfast: 1/2 banana, 1 egg, 1 slice toast
  • Lunch: 1 cup cottage cheese5 saltine crackers
  • Dinner: 2 hot dogs, 1 cup broccoli, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

Day 3

  • Breakfast: 1 hard boiled egg, 1 slice toast
  • Lunch: 1 oz. cheddar cheese, 5 saltine crackers, 1 small apple
  • Dinner: 1 cup tuna, 1 cup beets, 1 cup cauliflower, 1/2 cantaloupe, 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

You are eating foods 3x a day, but they are tiny portions.  I think this diet would be good for someone who is very good at following rules/guidelines once it’s given to them.  I’m one of those kinds of people, but it was still incredibly hard to choke down the beets (BLEH) even though I got the already steamed & ready to eat kind.

By Day 3 of the Kaiser Diet, I was down 2 pounds and very, very miserable. I took a quick look at the last meal (cauliflower, beets, tuna, and canteloupe?!) and wanted to barf.  What a barfy dinner! I had Daniel take me out for noodles instead :)

So I guess you can say I didn’t quite follow it… but I never want to take diets TOO seriously.  Of course everything you do should be a long term lifestyle commitment rather than something that won’t last.

Also, this just reminded me that I absolutely cannot give up my sweets and breads—- I’d much rather keep my diet and exercise more.  However, I did tell Daniel that I love ENDING these diets and being able to eat my regular foods again… because it tastes so much more amazing and I appreciate it so much more! :)

sweet of you to say Annie! ;) I was very curious to the 10 lbs in 3 days, but of course that’s probably only the case if you weigh 300 lbs.

Actually that type of salad is really good!! But eating beets straight up is no fun. the only bearable thing about this diet was the vanilla ice cream!! YUM
