J and I love getting our makeup done, like most girls, but I think it’s going to be so much more fun getting them done horribly wrong so we can show them to you! We made appointments for Yves Saint Laurent after seeing a special ad online.
I was really excited to finally enter the gates of Bergdorf! As a Californian, I’ve never even heard of this place until I watched Gossip Girl. The place is a beautiful department store, but I felt immediately out of place in my payless sneakers. Oops… I should know that California Casual doesn’t cut it at Bergdorfs!

Yves Saint Laurent makeover
We were immediately greeted by an rude lady who I was secretly hoping was not one of the YSL makeup reps…but of course—she turned out to be MY makeup rep! She did a very fast and rough job on me and was very curt. I kept glancing over at J in jealousy, who’s makeup person is bright, personable and cheerfully takes pictures for her. =/ My lady goes to do something and I take a quick snap of J:

Right after I took this picture, my lady came back and snaps “EXCUSE ME HELLO!?!? There are people waiting!” I was so shocked that I had no reaction to that. (Also… there was absolutely nobody after me. I checked. Grr!) After that I stopped asking too many questions and just sat back. I actually wanted to say a couple times, “Look lady, if you don’t want to do my makeover, just don’t do it.”
She reaches for the purple mascara and I go “OH DEAR….” She put it on me even though she didn’t curl my eyelashes. She did however mention “You should really curl your lashes because they’re really straight.” (Umm… duh? So why don’t you curl them for me?)
She lets me take a look:

My eyes looked… weird. Everything was kind of washed out. She put purple mascara on top and underneath my eyes, with purple mascara. What’s with the purple?!? I guess because I was wearing purple??? The funny thing is, another rep comes by and says “WOW you look GREAT.” I swear they pay people to go around and say that! I looked really weird!!
Here’s a clip of her putting under-eye concealer on me—which is a great example of what NOT to do when applying concealer! She’s smearing it on me with force and it’s stretching out my under-eye skin!! AHHH! Plus you should never use your finger–and if you do, you should use your ring finger, AKA your weakest finger. Eeek… I was very nervous while she was doing this. Also, she left finger marks everywhere!
*This was another experience when I was thinking “Are you quite sure that you are a professional makeup artist?” This is also another experience where I felt that a person had no idea how to deal with my very Asian face. I don’t want to look exotic—I just want to look normal!
Although it doesn’t look too bad in the video, my face looked even weirder in the outside light. It was a bad makeup experience overall. I might have purchased something if she had tried to sell me something, but she left promptly after she was done. No “goodbye” or chat time. She did not want anything to do with me! (Maybe it was the payless sneakers…)

Look at the weirdness of the purple!! And their under-eye concealer didn't work very well on me.
I wish we could have really been able to find great makeup and ask questions– but we didn’t see anything we liked. We grabbed wet naps on our way out!

Well that just stinks. I hate to say it but it sounds like rude makeup lady had an issue with your race and wanted you away from her asap. You should file a complaint so she can adjust her attitude or find a new job that she is actually skilled at.
I’m not sure if it was my race–but I definitely feel like I have the worst luck with makeup artists! (Like my Christian Dior lady, and she was Asian herself!) I should definitely try to file something, so that they can start a better screening process with their makeup artists!! I should also try dressing up to these things from now on, hehe!
the makeup totally did not do you beautiful gals justice!
haha aww thanks Sarah! we definitely did not look our best that day!
