I never thought I was such a germ-a-phob till I saw this::::

Pink Eye caused by SAMPLE TESTER MAKEUP!
One thing that I, as a makeup artist promise you all is that, all of my makeup brushes, puffs, and even the actual makeup is sanitized after every event that I do. (weddings, fashion shows, photo shoots, just making over friends, etc.)
Here are some of my tips on how to:
1) Clean your shadows. You will need:
- Cleansing wipes OR alcohol swabs (something that will disinfect and dry quick)

Botanics by BOOTS - Cleansing wipes
- a flat service that fits your eyeshadow

the end of my powder brush
- cover it with the wet nap and tap gently to clean the shadow

Flat end of brush to clean shadows

Dirty nap .. clean shadow
2) Wash your BRUSHES!!! and BRUSH GUARD them!
Tip 1: always wash your brush with the bristles facing down (to prevent water from getting to the root where it’s most likely being held by glue)
Tip 2: you can use a separate brush cleanser, but I find using a antibacterial hand soap or a gentle facial cleanser a whole lot better (plus, you don’t need to buy another “thing”)
Tip 3: dry them flat on a towel. Never blow dry them with a hot hair dryer.
Tip 4: OR you can BRUSH GUARD them and dry them facing down.

The above is 2 of the same brush, 1 with the BRUSH GUARD.
The BRUSH GUARD is::::
a stretchable, breathable tube which protects your makeup brushes:
- While drying—bristles dry in perfect shape
- In use—handle stays clean and grips better
- In storage—no snags or squashing
- On the move—perfect packing
- They come in an assortment of sizes that can fit just about any brush
- AFFORDABLE!!!! (my favorite part about them)
They kind of remind me of the chinese finger traps.

The Brush Guard = Chinese Finger Trap
Not only is this product amazing! The customer service is over the top outstanding! I was contacted as soon as I placed my order with a customized “DEAR J” confirmation email and the guards shipped so quickly that it was such a pleasant surprise to receive it in the mail.
As for “J”, I ordered half of their inventory. (j/k) but for your eye candy pleasure:

My Collection - part of it xP .. go on .. be jealous~

Thanks for the tips!!
I do clean my brushes… but do I have to clean my own eyeshadow too, even though I don’t share them with anyone???
You’re very welcome deary~
and no, you don’t have to clean your shadows~
i haven’t cleaned ANY of my brushes. nor have i even switched out my brushes for like 10 years. as u can see, i am VERY low maintenance when it comes to putting makeup on. i think i’ve only replaced one color. lol. and i have to buy bobbi brown’s gel eyeliner every so often because it dries up and i can’t use it anymore.
i guess my question is… does eyeshadow expire??? is it ok that most of my eyeshadow is like 5 years old?
@ Connie: I found this online which better explains~ Hope this helps!

This is so funny—as soon as I read this, I went to my mirror to wash my face and my eye was pink!! Time to wash my brushes!
Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?
Thank you Gary! I’ve actually been trying EXTRA hard with my grammar because I’m surrounded by english teachers, SAT teachers and professors. – Jina
Where did you take from such kind of information? Can you give me the source?
Hello. I think the article is really interesting. I am even interested in reading more. How soon will you update your blog?
@crisbetewsky – you can go the BRUSH GUARD website for more info
@KonstantinMiller – thank you for your support!~ we try to update daily~
I wish all makeup artists knew this. I got my makeup done at a Glamor Shots for fun during the summer before my senior year, and caught a double case of pink eye because the make up artist had dirty makeup. I ended up with pink eye during my senior portraits (which were taken like a week after the incident.) Luckily you couldn’t tell but it was so painful.
